“Cargo pants are of the devil!”

Yes, this was something that I actually said recently to my husband. Was there a chore that you were responsible for as a kid that you absolutely hated more than anything else?

IroningWell, for me that was ironing. One of my chores as I got older was to iron all of my father’s dress shirts for work. He was a banker, and therefore had to wear a dress shirt every day. I absolutely HATED ironing. So of course, I would put it off and put it off (which if you know me very well, I am not at all a procrastinator, quite the opposite), because I just hated ironing. Sometimes I would wait until there were 14 shirts to iron and my father didn’t have a single one left in the closet to wear. Somehow thinking it would be better? Well I can tell you that ironing 14 dress shirts at one time is just horrible, especially as a kid. Then I would be stuck for what seemed like forever ironing.

To this day I still HATE to iron. It’s just one of those things I never liked, and never will. But unfortunately I can’t get out of it. My husband and I have a deal though, he takes his shirts and dress pants to the cleaners, and I just iron the chino pants. Better than doing the shirts too, but I still hate it! Especially when it comes to pleated and cargo pants. Hence the quote in the title. I really did say that. They are a nightmare to iron! Whoever created these styles had to have been a man, because it is my experience that men don’t do much ironing, so they wouldn’t realize how much of a pain they are, and didn’t care because they weren’t going to iron them anyway! As if I don’t hate ironing bad enough as it is, pleated and cargo pants make it even worse! So I am banning my husband from ever buying another pair of either style again.

As I sit here looking at the pile of pants that need to be ironed, because this is real life, I ask myself, is it really worth the money we are saving for me to iron these instead of taking them to the cleaners? I guess it is, but I will complain about it every time that I have to iron them!
